Nitrobeard: Episode 15

• September 6th, 2009

In this week’s episode, those crazy Nitrobeard boys are stealin’ all the hats from the hard workin’, external-program usin’, butthurt hooligans in Team Fortress 2! How will they get out of this bucket of gravy?! Actually, we’ll stop using Dukes of Hazzard narration, and tell you what’s REALLY in store this week. It’s RPG madness as Mass Effect, The Witcher, City of Heroes/Villians, Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft, and League of Legends (hey, it has stat building! It counts!) are all talked about in detail. It’s a short-but-sweet episode, as it’s delicious AND nutritious.

WATCH AS OUR BEARDS BLOSSOM FORTH, KILLIN’ YOUR DUDES WHILE WEARING HALOS AND BIRTHDAY HATS, WE’RE LIVE!

Nitrobeard: Episode 14

• August 10th, 2009

What the?! What’s that noise? It’s Nitrobeard, baby, and we’ve returned after a short hiatus. Wes returns to the helm, with Brian riding shotgun, in this brisk 40 minute episode. Games covered are UFC Undisputed, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Secret of Monkey Island, InFamous, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Wipeout Fury HD.

Of course, what would a return to form be without off-topic tangents? Quentin “Rampage” Jackson’s softer side, 2 months of internet celibacy, and G4’s awkward E3 2009 coverage are all gabbed about, enough-so that you’d swear your gossipy old aunt from the Red Hat Society was in town.

BUT ALAS, SHE’S NOT, AS HER BEARD ISNT STRONG ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN OUR RETURN! WE’RE LIVE!

In the third segment, we discuss our favorite E3 memories, and our thoughts on what to expect from E3 2009. Definitely our most professional podcast, Episode 12 aims to please the hardcore, no ifs, ands, or buts! We’re live!

This one’s an episode for the record books, as it’s over two hours of PC gaming greatness, all rolled into a stylish ball of delicious. In the first segment, Wes, Brian, and special guest, George Kavillines, cover what they’ve been playing, and it’s a huge list. Featuring Plants Vs. Zombies, Demon Souls, Braid, Zeno Clash, Grand Theft Auto IV, Phantasy Star Portable, and The Witcher, we cover a little of everything.

In the second segment, we discuss our fondest PC gaming memories, our #1 recommendations for newcomers, our favorite (non World of Warcraft) MMO, and our favorite PC gaming moment. Also, random Battlestar Galactica and Kangaroo Jack (what the?!) chatter. Games included? Tyrian, The Legend of Kyrandia, Blade Runner, Left 4 Dead, Deus Ex, Plants Vs. Zombies, Omicron, The Longest Journey, City of Heroes, Lord of the Rings Online, Company of Heroes, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine, Bioshock, Counter Strike: Source, Dawn of War 2, Links PGA Tour, and many, many more.

In the third and final segment, the gents break down the urban legends and myths surrounding PC gaming (It’s too expensive, Vista tore my family apart, etc), and clear up some confusion. We also get on the hate bandwagon, and belittle what may be the most popular PC game in history. All-in-all, Episode 11 is easily worth the wait, and it may be our finest episode ever.

Nitrobeard: Cinco De Mayo Special

• May 6th, 2009

Okay, I know what some of you are thinking: “This isn’t the PC Gaming Special at all! I’ve been fooled for the last time, you bearded hooligans!” Technically, you’re correct. But we have a good reason, promise! Technical difficulties and scheduling conflicts have made Episode 11 the most bend-over-backwards, pull-your-hair-out, makes-you-put-words-together-with-dashes piece of radio in podcasting history.

After two (!!) corrupted attempts, Episode 11 will be recorded soon, but in the meantime, to celebrate Cinco De Mayo, Nitrobeard proudly presents a moment so fabled, so cherished, that it must be given to you uncut, uncensored, and in its entirety. It features not only Nitrobeard’s own Brian Belida, but our upcoming special guest (!!) who will be featured on Episode 11.

It’s with great pleasure that Nitrobeard brings you The Legend of Gnarpig.

Nitrobeard: Episode 10

• April 25th, 2009

It’s Nitrobeard’s Double-Digit Anniversary Special! We finally hit our first major benchmark as a podcast, and to celebrate, we’re turning the show over to you, the fans. We’ve focused this entire episode on listener mail, after much success from Episode 8. That’s not all, though, we also have a special guest joined Wes and Brian, and that’s one Mr. Cody Dunn, top-secret gaming assassin, and all-around awesome guy.

In the first segment, we go over what we’ve been playing, and the list includes: Spelunky, Zeno Clash, Guild Wars, City of Heroes, Geometry Wars, and Resident Evil 4. We also tie in general Steam talk, The Orange Box for $10 (BUY BUY BUY), and the usefulness of the president’s daughter as she’s hiding in a dumpster.

In the second segment, it’s the mailbag, and it’s a treat. The guys cover everything from their favorite gaming company, thoughts on DLC, Battlestar Galactica tidbits, a few comments from Episode 9, the eternal Relic vs. Blizzard rivalry, our picks for the best roguelike, and the oversaturation in the music games industry.

It’s a packed episode, and we couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks for the support these first 10 episodes, and here’s to many, many more! NITROBEARD IS NOT ONLY NITRO-ING, IT’S ALSO BEARDING, MEANING WE’RE AT FULL VELOCITY! WE’RE LIVE!

Nitrobeard: Episode 9

• April 18th, 2009

In this wholly epic edition of Nitrobeard, ruffians Brian and Wes leave their humble village in search for adventure, and tales of grandeur! Actually, it’s our Japanese RPG Special, and it’s 2.5 hours of nostalgia, memories, and discussion on a genre that’s stayed with us far after we’ve set down our controllers. In the first segment, we talk about what we’ve been playing (Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Spelunky, RogueTouch, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time), and Wes discusses his new machinima project using the Halo 3 engine.

The second segment is something truly special, and extremely intimate, as we talk about our fondest JRPG memories from childhood, which stories have stuck with us throughout the years, and some underdog classics that you should definitely take a look at. This segment is set to a wide assortment of RPG music, ranging from Final Fantasy VII, Wild Arms, Breath of Fire 3, Final Fantasy XII, Xenogears, Suikoden, Final Fantasy IX, Brave Story, and Star Ocean: The Second Story. Sit back and enjoy as we share our memories, and we hope it sparks fond ones of your own.

That being said, in the third and final segment, we absolutely obliterate what JRPGs have become. We trash Nomura’s fashion sense, ridiculously convoluted characters, anti-gravity fight scenes, absurd dialogue, and somewhat-racist innuendo. The mocking doesn’t stop, as we blast and bombard other series as well, in true Nitrobeard fashion. We end the episode with a look at a few shining beacons of hope for the JRPG scene (*ahem*VALKYRIA CHRONICLES), and where we think the genre itself is headed in the years to come.

Sit back, relax, and get your party equipped, Nitrobeard is here, and we’re rocking our ultimate weapons! IT’S A GOOD THING WE’RE MERCENARIES, OR WE WOULDN’T KNOW HOW TO POST THIS PODCAST.

Nitrobeard: Episode 8

• April 12th, 2009

Welcome to Nitrobeard’s 2-Hour Holiday Extravaganza Spectacular! In this episode, Brian, Wes, and special guest, internet celebrity, Peitre band together and go through reader mail! Everything is covered, from our impressions of Batman: Arkham Asylum, our thoughts on GameTrailer’s ‘Top 10 Fighting Games Ever’ list, City of Heroes’ illustrious Issue 14 content, the art of machinima, the LEGO franchise (both the games AND toys), to our thoughts on Barack Obama’s public image, to a disucssion of martial arts, and we ponder how many 10 year olds we can beat up.

In the second segment, the gents discuss what they’ve been playing, and games covered include Grand Theft Auto IV, Braid, Dawn of War 2, Spelunky, Freespace, Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor, GTA: Chinatown Wars, and it wouldn’t be a Nitrobeard without Battlestar Galactica references.

Also, be sure to check out the full legend of Gnarpig, as talked about at the start of the show.

It’s the holidays, baby, and it’s time to celebrate! Nitrobeard, and your questions, ARE LIVE!

Nitrobeard: Episode 7

• April 4th, 2009

In this amazing edition of Nitrobeard, Tyler returns to the fray after becoming a daddy (Congrats!), Brian and Wes join up, and the Three Musketeers are back in true style and grace. Also, for the first time ever, Doug Oldham of No Quarter Production fame sits in, as our live studio audience. Why is this important? Wait until the end of the first segment, which goes to show that when recording live radio, absolutely ANYTHING can happen.

Speaking of anything happening, this paragraph is usually about the second segment. However, it’s very hard to discuss the second segment, as it was apparently corrupted while we were recording. Yes, on such a joyous occassion, the gaming/audio/visual gods thought we were rocking too hard, and put our fun to an end. We went over some very great topics (Resident Evil 5, MadWorld, Dawn of War 2), yet it’ll be lost in the annals of time, for all eternity. Better luck next week, right? Oh, did I forget to mention that we’re back to our semi-weekly schedule? More Nitrobeard, you say? Surely you jest! JEST, I DO NOT, SIR!

NITROBEARD IS BACK!
